140 characters. Should books follow suit?

Micro this, micro that… we are over run with information and content. With so much to get through… we have evolved how we consume and produce to allow us to more easily process and digest lots of content with minimal time required.

140 characters! 120 if on twitter.. makes it easy for others to RT you.

I picked up a few books recently and found myself exhausted just looking at the pages and pages of single space, 10pt, times roman font. No white space, no pictures… just lots and lots of words. I don’t have that much time…

I read three chapters.

My assessment? – the author could have easily got his point across in just one third of the pages. My point is this: if we are moving to a far more information drenched society, and we are currently embracing, loving and religiously using Social Media tools that permit 140 characters at a time… should authors and publishers be following suit?

I don’t know if every type of book would benefit from this… but I think a lot of them would.
