So here’s a concept. When you want to grow your business, give something away! Consumers (B2B ones and all) are fatigued and quite frankly, a little pissed off with the constant and persistent grab at thier money and time. Everybody wants a piece of them, nobody gives a damn – and don’t pretend to – that’s far far worse and anyone over the age of three can tell that you are a big fat fake!
Opportunity! Be the person/company/sales person who gives a damn. Stop pawing your consumers and stop throwing rounds of messaging at them hoping something will stick! Stop!
Take five steps back… take a deep breath… and answer this one question – What does my customer need? Then…. find a way to give it to them… free – this thing you give away doesn’t have to cost money… it could be information…. it could be something that has nothing to do with what you are selling! I think you’ll also realize that among many other things, your consumer wants to be valued and respected.
This isn’t to suggest that you need to give your consumer <insert appliance here> for goodness sake! I’m suggesting you get to know your consumer, understand who they really are and what their needs are. Then meet one of those needs… (I feel an asterisk and small print coming on…. – and that is not what I mean either). They could be new to a neighborhood and not sure what activities to get their kids plugged into – if you know the local soccer coach… perhaps that name and number would be well received by recently settled family?
Just because you have been doing business one way for the last 10 years, does not mean things can’t change… I’m not sure I know any business today who can afford to keep that attitude.
